Yahoo! and Getty ink a deal

by Colleen on July 9th, 2008

Flickr-Getty-combo Yahoo! and Getty Images have signed a deal that will help Flickr users make some coin from their images.

Flickr users who want to get their shots featured in the extra-special fancy Getty gallery will have to simply wait to be contacted.

Flickr-hosted images that have been chosen to be included in the new collection will get a special link to the Getty page where they can purchase a license to use the shot.

In order to get paid and allow their images to be used, Flickr members have to sign a Getty Images contributor contract, which says all the standard stuff: the photographer is the owner, and has all necessary model releases and originals. It also outlines the various rates based on size and intended commercial usage.

The rates haven’t been made public yet, but the suspicion is that it’ll follow the current Getty rates.
