Social Networking Users are Unfaithful

by Kevin on July 17th, 2007

No because your significant other is on a social networking website doesn’t mean you will catch them in bed with the mailman anytime soon. There has been a rash of articles over the last three weeks about how social networking users have profiles on more than one network. Shocking, I know…

Here is one such entry that talks about the numbers and gives a breakdown of the recent “study”.

I don’t know how this can be considered news worthy, in an age where people have no loyalty to what channel they watch on tv or where they read their news, why would they be honed in on one social networking websites. We want the ability to have options, to be flexible, to adjust with our moods… How is any of this new knowledge?

However studies like this reinforce the point that you should create your marketing strategy around a handful of sites. I know that I have a rotation that I hit every morning, from running Hi-5 Bot, to a MySpace program, then I use a few social bookmarking websites for a few minutes and a few blog social networking sites.

Knowing that users are unfaithful, fickle, and constantly changing their approach to social networking it is important to look beyond the sites that you are using and establish yourself on more than one site. So today take a few minutes out and set up a profile on a new site that you don’t have a presence on.
