One of the features of social networking sites is the ability to highly customize your profile to your liking. Myspace is one of the most customizable sites if you understand css and html, however not every business owner is a design expert. There are tools in place for you to customize your page on myspace.
Before you plunge in and design your profile there are things that you should consider about your design and your profile in general.
1) What approach are you going to take with your page?
Are you going to do a personal page that promotes a company you work for or a product you sell? Maybe you will use the page as an extension of your website? Or perhaps you want to go with a spokes model approach and have your product promoted under the guise of using pictures of attractive males or females to draw people to your page.
2) Do you have logo or product pictures that you want to use?
You want to make sure you promote your product be it yourself, a website, or a product. If you have a company logo maybe you want to set it as a background image to your profile. Figuring out how you want to display your content is a key move in the creation of your page.
3) What is your main goal?
Are you there to drive traffic, sell a product, or promote something? How are you going to customize your profile to achieve that goal.
If you are promoting a website you may want to include multiple different hyper links to content on your page. You can mask them by using pictures, mentioning features of the site in blogs or in text on your profile, and using banners to promote it. At the same time you want to be clever to where you are not looking like a giant billboard and jamming your site down the throat of the user.
After you consider these questions you will have a better idea of what you want to accomplish with your page. You will be ready to start the customizing process.
