Facebook Applications, The New Spam Part 5

by Kevin on January 22nd, 2008

This is part of my ongoing conquest to examine every single Facebook application I get invited to, I am like 5o in and still think I have a few hundred to go.

Addicted to Family Guy- (2 invites)

What they say: Watch Family Guy? Give some love to your favorite characters, pictures & quotes on your profile. Inside the application, you’ll be able to meet other fans, chat, and view all pictures and quotes. New! - Trivia Challenge

What I say: Kind of like the addicted to The Office application, except this show isn’t as funny. Seriously I used to love this show but it has totally lost all steam since it has comeback from being canceled.

Harry Potter, Trivia, News, Quotes- (1 invite)

What they say: Addicted to Harry Potter? Give some love to your favorite characters, pictures & quotes on your profile. Inside the application, you’ll be able to meet other fans, chat, and view all pictures and quotes. New! - Trivia Challenge

What I say: Great if you are nine to fourteen years old, if you are older than that and have this application go pick up a real book written for adults.

My Links- (1 invite)

What they say: Link to your pages on other sites, including MySpace, LinkedIn, YouTube, Digg, Twitter, Friendster, Wikipedia, and more!

What I say: I like this application, keeping your social media networked and letting people know about what networks you are on is important. I think though there is another one that creates them all in a boxed format, I am sure I will get to it at some point in my life.

Fighter’s Club- (5 invites)

What they say: Pick fights, make money, earn reputation …

Make gangs, fight other gangs, be notorious …

Lock friends up with horny manatees, have them beaten up by Clint-Eastwood, Shaft, or Chuck Norris…

There’s so much you can do: what’s the wait for!

What I say: First rule of fighters’s club, tell no one about this application. Second rule of fighter’s club stop using Chuck Norris references.

Sketch Me- (2 invites)

sketch me

What they say: Bored with your profile picture?

This app creates an artistic pencil sketch based on your profile photo !

You don’t have to do anything … this app will automatically create your sketch for you.

What I say: Utterly pointless, it isn’t even fun. It’s neither fun nor funny nor entertaining. And there aren’t any good jokes I can write about it.

Likeness Unrated- (5 invites)

What they say: Find out who you’re like on mature topics like purity, vices, and the seven deadly sins. Can you find a perfect match?

What I say: I already know my friends are boozers, whores, and liars…why do I need a program to verify that?

Jedi vs Sith- (3 invites)

What they say: Join in the epic battle of Jedi vs. Sith. Sign up as a Jedi and make a stand against the Dark Side. Or join as a Sith and work to destroy the Jedi. Work your way up the ranks until you are a Master of your Order. Recruit your friends to your side and test to see just how strong the Force is with you. Join today!

What I say: Kind of like the zombie application and other ones in the same vein, I don’t need to join a crew to fight an imaginary battle on Facebook.

iRepresent- (1 invite)

What they say: iRepresent puts a flag on your profile to let everyone know which
country YOU represent.

Want people to know your culture? or just want to show respect for
your favourite country?

Select from over 220 flags, and start representing your country today!

What I say: This is a copy application there is already an application that does the same thing, we didn’t need the first one, why would we need a second?

bookshelf

Visual Bookshelf- (3 invites)

What they say: Build up a virtual bookshelf by searching the Amazon book inventory.

* See what your friends are reading
* Show others whats on your real bookshelf
* See who else is reading a book (a good icebreaker)
* Read and create reviews
* Clean low-text look on your profile
* Recommend books on your bookshelf to your friends

What I say: I think this one is a little fun and useful, again it is just consolidation of data. Plus since I am in grad school and am forced to read so much it makes me look way smarter than I really am.

I am narrowing it down, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel in reviewing all of these applications.

I recently joined Facebook and I’m amazed by all the applications that are out there. I find that the vast majority of them are a waste of time….thanks for your feedback on these :)

When Facebook opened up half the time when I had a message I didn’t even know that I was adding some application. There must be some Facebook cleanup application. That is what I need. I’d like to use it more but my profile is getting cluttered and I don’t really know which apps i really use. I tend to say everything I have to say on my blog and then share it on my profile or post it on my wall but I’m sure there are better ways to achieve this. I am going to follow this post to see what else you cover.

Its amazing how many applications there are now on Facebook. I noticed their CribFinder App the other day which is something I want to get some use out of. Facebook is definitely the company of the future. Im sure once they find ways to make money, the company will fly high right by Google.

FacePOOP like MicroPOOP who paid $240 Million for 1.6% is an overhyped overpriced piece o POOP!!

I laffed joining 1 Group last night “STOP Forcing me to Invite 20 Friendz!!”

    No Kidding*

Julie got it right - FacePOOP is a Supreme Time Waster - Shits n Giggles + nothing else*

A Boring Mass of Ad Eyeballs + Sea of Misery*

    ;PPP
