Candidate’s MySpace Profile Review: Rudy Giuliani
Last week I took at look at the leading Democrat nominees for the Presidency’s MySpace pages and evaluated how they were using social media. Now I am going to check out the other side of the coin and look at the leading Republicans. There is one thing I want to point out before I get started with the Republicans. Mitt Romney doesn’t have a page listed with MySpace Impact, which is the homepage for politics on MySpace. So I am not skipping over him out of dislike for him or anything like that. As for Ron Paul, I am only focusing on people that aren’t fringe candidates.
First up is Rudy Giuliani, his page is laid out in the traditional MySpace style, very little flash to it. Everything is placed in the about me section which makes the page super long, one thing that Obama did using the standard MySpace profile is make use of both columns in it’s design. This is something the Giuliani campaign might consider. Also the use of social media here is rather small, they have a spring widgets that links to their webpage, a poll, and a few ways to support Rudy, not much more than that.
There are two things that I like about this profile though, one is transparency. We obviously know that the candidates aren’t updating their MySpace pages and posting stuff on their own or at all. On Giuliani’s page Dan Meyers explains that he is running the page and his staff will be updating it frequently, I like the fact that they are being honest and transparent about the use of the page. The other thing I did like is the use of video on the page, I can’t preach enough about the value of video right now. While this page maybe over using it by placing so many videos on front of the page, they are updating the blog with video.
Overall I wasn’t impressed by the layout and the setup, it basically falls into the same level of Hillary Clinton’s use of MySpace and social media.
